8 Tips To Teach Your Child How To Pray

Praying is an
important aspect in our daily lives. We pray to communicate with our
Maker and Savior. However, some parents neglect to teach or simply
don’t know how to teach their children how to pray. Don’t
worry, my friends. This post can help you teach your child how to
call out to God.

The steps are easy
to do and follow so let’s get started.

  1. You can
teach your children to memorize a prayer
. This prayer can be a
short prayer before going to sleep or prayer before every meal.
However, I do not strongly recommend this. As time goes by, this
prayer will be reduced to something that is only memorized as
compared to something that is sincere.

A
prayer should come from the heart. So instead, create a format for
your prayer. The prayer should include honoring, acknowledging God’s
power, thanking, asking for mercy, forgiveness, and protection.

  1. Pray with
    your children
. As much as possible, pray using your own words
so that children can imitate this. The best time to do this is
during meal time. You can let your children take turns in praying.
You can also pray with them before going to bed.

  2. Tell your
kids to thank God for the wonderful blessings that you have
    received
. This will teach the kids to be thankful for what they
have. You can have them express gratitude for their playmates,
grandparents, or pets. Also, teach your kids to thank the Lord for
the things that they want. They will learn patience and faith
    through this exercise.

  3. Teach them
to pray for other people and beings
    . This will show them
kindness and consideration towards others. For example, you can
have them pray for a classmate that is sick. In addition, this will
teach them to be stewards of other men and beings. As the child
grows, he or she will learn to include more mature concepts or
    issues.

  4. Make this a
    habit
. Say a prayer together every time. Doing this will help
them get used to praying until a habit is formed. In no time, they
will no longer be ashamed of praying and calling out to God.

  5. Inform them
that praying is a way to talk to God
. Talking to God is pretty
much like talking to you. Explain this concept to them so they can
also pour out their heart to God just like you do.

  6. Say a prayer
not only because you need something
. When your kid got a gold
star on a project or when he got a new pet, let him take a moment of
silence to thank God for everything. This will help them develop
their relationship with God even more.

  7. Lead.
Children learn well by example. You can pray together or let your
child see you praying. If you do this, they will see and learn that
praying is an important part in our lives.

As I mentioned,
these tips are very easy to do. Guide your child into the right path
and teach them how to communicate with God.

God bless you.
